Oh hi. Friday, June 26, 2009
So my lack of writing can almost wholly be attributed to the fact that I've spent the last two weeks trying frantically to re-finish a side table and bookcase rescued from the depths of my grandparent's basement. The scraping and sanding and inhaling of strong chemical strippers did wonders for my mental capacity. We used to tell ourselves in college that the brain cells we killed were clearly the weaker ones and therefor just making space for the stronger ones to survive and multiply. That theory is total bullshit.Minor setbacks aside, I should be finished with the bookcase this weekend. The side table, well, that one is a little bitch. The first round of stain on the top looked horrible due to some experimenting that went horribly wrong. So I had to re-strip it yet this time around the stain seemed to eat the stripper and wouldn't come off. So I had to sand large stubborn sections forever. Which is probably why my shoulder is hurting, you know that bitch shoulder that has been bothering me for months.*
Yet tomorrow is going to be perfect weather and I'm not going to be working on any of these projects. Instead I'm going to be flinging my body from an airplane. This, my friends, is not hyperbole. I am actually going to be doing it and I absolutely cannot wait. I've wanted to go sky diving for years and round and round we've made mythical plans to do it. A couple of months ago I decided it was time for us to stop pussyfooting around and set a date. This is the year of action.
Full report to come tomorrow or very soon after.
*I finally did have that shoulder looked at and am currently doing some physical therapy. I should be better according to them in mid-july.

Seriously boring Tuesday, August 07, 2007
After reading Sarah's awesome recap of her weekend I'm more than a little disappointed in mine. I spent it being the hired guns for several of my friends. And if 'hired gun' had actually meant taking people out then it wouldn't have been so lame, instead I was Bob-Villa-Skeezix. Friday night I helped my friend pick up rocks in her yard. Big, huge rocks.
Awesomely they having a pool put in and the excavating had unearthed rocks and scattered them about her yard. I am hoping that my helping will earn me several invitations to the pool.
Then on Saturday I rocked Kate's house where I spent 9.5hrs painting. At one point Kate said that she was glad I was there because I was like having two more people since I'm the best painter ever.
Sunday there was more painting.
Boring. At least they all plied me with beer.
God, I need to go out. I'm still single and I need a date.

White wash Monday, June 18, 2007
So I picked up the keys to my new place on Friday, and I'll have to say I was more than disappointed with it. The simple fact was the walls looked terrible, the color was a dirty cream. And by dirty I mean really actually dirty. There was layers of dust clinging to the walls.I couldn't stand it so I picked up some white paint and went to town. I painted the whole apartment myself in 2 days (everything needed two coats of paint). And to put this delicately- oh my motherfucking god, I'm so fucking sore today that I'm actually walking funny.
But the difference the paint made was astonishing. Everything seemed suddenly cleaner and brighter.
Now my only freakout is the actual moving part. I hate moving, having moved 20-some times in my entire life. I stopped counting a couple of years ago. I've not really packed which I think is causing the main stress, and then there is the secondary stress of things like "oh my god, will my couch fit through the door? What if it doesn't fit? What am I going to do? "
It is so bad that I barely slept last night, I tossed and turned and had lots of nightmares. So not cool.
Here are some before and after photos from the painting extravaganza.
